Gastric Bypass Surgery and Smokers

Hi everyone, I am scheduled to have my surgery in only a few more weeks and am just planning to begin my pre op phase in a few days. One of the items is that you cannot smoke for ten to fourteen days prior to the surgery. I have smoked for over twenty years, so of course I am nervous about this item. I am planning to use a Vaporizer (not exactly sure even what this is), and am determined to follow all my pre op instructions as this is something that means a lot to me, but I know it is going to be very difficult. My question is has anyone had the surgery and are you a smoker. If so did you honestly quit, how did it affect you, etc. Any past experiences or information would be awesome. Thanks.
